Present OM KVPW (My 106.3)/Fresno-Visalia, CA1. What was your last non-Industry job?
Growing up in the Northwest, I love the mountains. I would spend my winter in the ski shop working and ski everyday and in the summer switch to cycle. Those were the days!
2. Why Radio?
I always loved music growing up but never thought about going into radio. All I wanted to do was get my turntables out. When Bobby O at KUBE 93 asked me to come mix on the station I was hooked. I spent every hour I could hanging out at the station and learning what I could from everyone.
3. What's the first thing you do when you walk into your office in the morning?
Listen to Jerry Clifton tell me "it's a stiff", then meet the staff about sales and promotions get them on the street.
4. What animal would best describe you as a person and why?
Really an animal look alike contest? How bout a fly, they never go away!
5. You're battling two Top 40/Rhythmic stations with significant heritage in your market. Ever slow down enough to think about that challenge?
I don't worry too much about what the other stations are doing. I'm focused on getting the right music in and doing the right promotions. Everything will fall in place. It always has.
6. You're a newcomer to Fresno and the San Joaquin Valley. How is that an advantage for you?
New ears in the city. There was definitely a music hole here. I heard the city right away tell me what they really wanted to hear on the radio. It wasn't the CC top ten list!
7. Who do you consider to be your mentor(s)?
This is the "I'd like to thank" part! Mike Tierney for sure was a building block for me on how to be a PD, Jerry Clifton was part of the early MD years in Spokane and Micheal Newman got me my first PD job, and when you think you have put the perfect plan together stars align the promotion and music fit perfect... then call Mark Adams and have him bring you back to earth.
8. If you could add 30 minutes of solitude in your office everyday...how do you think you would spend it?
Smoke a joint! I found out its legal in California. Seriously...that answer was a dare. I don't even smoke.
9. If you could pick a perfect vacation spot, where would it be?
Somewhere with warm water, sand, little umbrellas in the drinks and my phone has zero bars.
10. If you were to leave Radio today and you could choose any other occupation, what would it be?
Hmmm any occupation... Sorry I was still thinking about the little umbrella in my drink! I have really no idea. I have always wanted to own a bar, so probably head back into the club business.
Bonus Questions
You are driving across country. Each night in your hotel room you have to watch the same two TV shows (different episodes each night). What two shows would they be?
