BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
I started as a KUUU intern in 2004. Six months later I got hired on parttime on my 21st birthday. I guess so that I could do the club remotes. Every year after that, I got a promotion. I went to fulltime a year later and became Promotions Director just over a year later.
1. What was your last non-Industry job?
I was a bank teller.
2. What got you into radio?
I have always had a passion for music and I always knew that I wanted to be in that industry. As I was completing school, I had to do an internship and I ended up doing one for a local radio station.
3. What do you think your most important role is as the Promotions Dir?
To stay on top of things. I'm the middle man so I have to always make sure everything is up to date and correct.
4. Salt Lake City is home now. What two other market would be fun to work in?
Obviously for me would be back home in Cali either San Diego or Los Angeles.
I also wouldn't mind Denver, Atlanta or even in Texas somewhere. I'm open to other markets.
5. What would you say is your personal best promotion idea for the station?
I think all my ideas are great unfortunately sometimes they don't work in this market. I really feel that my ideas are great since I'm in the middle of our demo and I love Hip Hop. I can still relate to our audience.
6. What's the best place to have a Promotions department meeting?
Somewhere fun like the bowling alley or a pizza spot.
7. What was the last promotion idea you straight up stole from another station (and customized for you)?
I'm still fairly new at this so I can't say that I've done that yet myself but I'm always looking for ideas.
8. Who do you consider your mentor(s)?
When it comes to promotions, I would have to say our old Promotions Dir. Scott St. John and John Bell (aka DJ Sayo). As far as radio goes, got to give it up to Kevin, Booker, and Wes (aka Latino Heat). These guys have taught me a lot.
9. A freak gravitational shift has added three hours to everyday. What would you do with those extra three hours?
lol.... R U Serious? Still LMFAO! I'd probably get some extra sleep or get some time off work. It's hard working 6-7 days a week.
10. Does the community of Salt Lake City effect how you and the station create and execute a promotion?
Definitely, because it is very sheltered and they're not always as open to us because of stereotypes.
Bonus Questions
If you were to leave Radio and music today and you could choose any other occupation, what would it be?
I would be an Optometrist. That's right, a doctor...seriously!
