BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
My radio career started in 2002 at KVEG (Hot 97.5)/Las Vegas (shouts out to J-Noise). I then headed to Tijuana, Mexico to work for Blazin 98.9 Hip Hop Y Mas for just under a year. I was snatched up by AJ In the Mornings (formally known as AJ's Playhouse on KHTS (Channel 933)/San Diego. I loved every minute I was there (approximately 2 ½ years). In 2006, I was able to get my aircheck to PD Jimmy Steal at KPWR (Power 106)/Los Angeles (thanks JustNCredible) where I landed my dream position, midday host for Power 106!
1. What was your last non-Industry job?
I worked in the E.R. at a Las Vegas hospital. I worked there fulltime while I did radio parttime. They were two way different worlds! It was classic when the hospital staff found out who I was! lol
2. What got you interested in Radio?
I always wanted to make people feel good and music has always been a passion but I was very shy growing up. Unless you were my close friend, you had no idea how fun I was and still am. Radio came into play when I found out I could hide behind a mic make people smile, feel good with music and be me with no one watching...score!
3. Outside of your airshift, what's a typical day like for you at the station?
I come in about 8:30am to work on music. Thanks to my MD DJ EMan who taught me to use Music Master and the technique of balancing and programming music. After my airshift, I finish up music and depending on the day, I attend our charity High School basketball game. We do these games twice a week to help raise money for different schools throughout Los Angeles and Orange County. After that, I get to go home to my family.. (7 kids, 6 of whom are adopted by me)
4. Is it true that you can recite the past Presidents of the United States in order of their presidency? When did you learn this and why?
OMG yes! It's true. It's a lame talent, I know. It was for extra credit in my 4th grade class. It took me a few hours to learn it and damn it I was going to make sure I never forget it because it took me long enough to learn it.
5. Is their something specific that triggers a smile when you think about being on-air at Power?
There's nothing specific because everyday I count my blessings for being here. At anytime it could be taken away so I really smile to be there everyday. The moment I walk in the studio and look outside the windows overlooking Burbank, I embrace the smile.
6. If you had to do some karaoke at the Power 106 Christmas party, what would you sing?
Last time I did Destiny's Child - Say My Name.
7. Who do you consider to be your mentor(s)?
Oh man, I hate these questions. I find guidance from a lot of people, from my own people here at the station, to people who don't work here but who've taught me. Let's see...J-Noise at Hot 97.5/Las Vegas, Jimmy Steal and DJ EMan have really been the first to actually to teach me anything in radio.
8. If you're out at a club...what song always makes you put down your drink and get to the dance floor?
Every woman's anthem, of course! Robin S - Show Me Love.
9. What would be more scary...bungee jumping off a tall bridge or being covered by non-lethal spiders?
I'm freakin deathly afraid of heights but I much rather catch the wind in my hair then find a scary surprise down south....
10. Which actor would you pick to star in your film biography?
Selena Gomez (at 23)
Bonus Questions
If you had to eat one meal three times a day for one week, what would it be and from what restaurant?
The mole from Homegirl Cafe in downtown Los Angeles. They make it fresh and you can eat mole with rice, eggs, bread. They make it from scratch so its healthy.
We're about halfway through 2010. How are your New Year's resolutions holding up?
I didn't make any specific resolutions. I tend remind myselft to just to keep focus, positive and live healthier. Oh! I'm still waiting to lock-in a date...a boo...a boyfriend ...whatever!
