1. What was your last non-Industry job?
While I was still a parttimer at Entercom Boston back in 2002-2003, I helped mold tiny little minds 3 times a week while wearing monkey pajamas as a Gymboree Instructor.
2. How did you end up in radio?
I blame it on a college buddy, Josh Turnof. He suckered me into joining our college radio station at Brandeis U, and an internship at the Greater Media cluster in Boston sealed the deal. I did the college internship thing for a bit while at Emory for grad school, and then finally landed the paying gig at Entercom.
3. What's more fun for you...putting together an event or the event itself?
It's definitely putting together an event. I'll take invoices, certs of insurance, and banner creative any day over yelling into a walkie-talking in 100 degree weather.
4. WBTS is blessed with one of the nicest staffs in the business. Are you the hard ass on staff?
Yes! But all of my previous employees who have "made it" in the biz will tell you I'm worth it. I'm the "Pre-Med" of Radio... if you can't survive me, it wasn't meant to be.
5. It's 11:45 on a Saturday night in Atlanta...where do we go to find you?
My house, sleeping. There were definitely times early on in my career that I slept from 3-6 am in a station vehicle between a club event and an early morning remote, but those days are LONG gone.
6. Hypothetical...it's time for you to take a 2-week vacation. Where would be your perfect vacation spot?
Not so hypothetical! I actually do take 2 weeks every year or so and fly to Thailand to build a house with Habitat for Humanity. Sawatdee ka!
7. What are the two most important parts of a successful promotional event?
TONS of attendees and TONS of revenue in from the sponsor.
8. Who do you consider to be your mentor(s)?
Josh Turnof, Tami D'addio, Dave Clapper, Clarence Natto, and Cagle. I should mention that the last three currently work in my building. I'm surrounded by talent!
9. Sushi & sake or beer & pizza?
Both please.
10. If you were to leave Radio today and you could choose any other occupation, what would it be?
I'd kill for a cause marketing position at Habitat for Humanity or American Red Cross, but I think the "kill" thing might be an issue.
Bonus Questions
In what area would you like to see yourself improve?
Dude! When you're already giving 110% day in and day out, that's just a mean question.
A freak gravitational shift has added three hours to everyday. What would you do with those extra three hours?
The On-Air Journals for Cagle. No additional info offered, but HE knows what I mean.
