10 Questions with ... DJ Fresh

BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:

Started out as mobile DJ in 1983. I served in the US Army until after Desert Storm. I graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 1995 majoring in Telecommunications And Film with a minor in Military Science. I did college radio from 1991 - 1995.

In 1997 I started at WKZJ/Columbus, GA. I moved across the street WFXE/Columbus, GA for weekends/mixshow. In 1999, I started doing nights at WJWZ/Montgomery, AL. I was also Mixshow Director. I had the same gig...nights/Mix Show Dir. at WTLZ/SAGINAW, MI. In 2001, I was APD/afternoons at WQSL/Greenville-New Bern, NC.

In 2007, I was named PD/afternoons at WRSV/Rocky Mt, NC. I'm currently PD/afternoons at WHWT/Huntsville, AL.

1. What was your last non-Industry job?

I was selling life insurance.

2. Why Radio?

I'm very passionate about music.

3. Ten years ago...would you have guessed Huntsville, AL?

Hell nooooooooooo! LOL

4. What's the hottest Hip Hop record on the station right now with teens?

Party Boyz - Flex, Waka Flocka Flame - O Lets Do It, Soulja Boy - Pretty Boy Swag, and Cali Swag District - Teach Me How To Dougie (sorry they're all equal)

5. What's your favorite part of your duties as PD?

Here at Hot, it's the production and imaging of the station.

6. If you could do a "Seacrest" and host a TV show along with your radio show, what TV show would you like to host?

BET's 106 & Park

7. It's midnight on SATURDAY night in Huntsville. Where do we go to find you?

When ever I'm not spinning/hosting at a club I club hop to stay in tuned with what's popping here. Otherwise, I'm relaxing at home with my movie, ice cold brew, and my X-Box 360. LOL

8. What jumps out at you as a record you ALWAYS turn up the studio monitors for?

There's a couple: I'm starting to really like Big Boi - Shutterbug (it'ds so classic Outkast). Also, Ushers - There Goes My Baby, Jeezy - Lose My Mind, and Ludacris - Sex Room!

9. If you were to leave Radio today and you could choose any other occupation, what would it be?

Teaching high school or college telecommunications or broadcasting. That's where it all starts. Not to de-value our hard working professors but I think that genuine professional teachers that actually work the field are missing. This industry changes everyday and the best guys to teach the new kids are the ones that are working the field NOW!

10. Let's say you're auditioning for American Idol...what song would you sing?

Yikes! I can't sing anything. You know, I really don't know. I'd probably freeze up anyway!

If you could pick an artist or band to perform at your wedding (and do all the traditional songs like the Chicken Dance) who would you pick?

Well, I love most classic R&B bands but some would be: Prince, Guy, Blackstreet, R.Kelly, D'Angelo, Lucy Pearl and Tony Toni Tone. (Who does the chicken dance at a wedding?) LOL
