BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
Started in radio as an intern at WILD AM 1090/Boston. Went on to become the midday jock and then moved to mornings where I was the one of the morning show personalities for three different morning shows over the 7 years I was there. I then came to Jamn 94.5 where I have been the morning show co-host. First with the Baltazar and Pebbles Show, and currently the Ramiro and Pebbles Show.
1. Why Radio?
I'm sure serious radio people hate to hear this, but radio was an accidental career for me. I needed one credit to graduate my senior year at Northeastern and did an internship at WILD to satisfy the requirement. At the time I had no interest in radio, but knew someone there who got me in. Little did I know I would fall in love with radio and be doing it 20 years later.
2. To date, what is the highlight of your radio career?
I honestly can't say that there is one specific event. I will say the fact that I have a career where I can go to work and know that I am guaranteed to laugh every single day no matter what is going on in my life is definitely the highlight of what I do.
3. Did/do you have any female radio role models?
I know it sounds strange for me to say this, but I never considered myself a hardcore radio person, so I didn't follow radio people and their careers. I never listened to other jock's airchecks, or tried to emulate anyone. I believe that has served me well and that I have been able to just be the best personality that I could be and not a copy of someone else, or a combination of other radio people. The one thing I do remember saying to myself early in my career is that I never wanted to be the girl who was just there to laugh at the male DJ's jokes and stroke his ego. I wanted to have something to contribute. The one person that I would say I admire as a media role model is Oprah, and I don't think I need to go into all the reasons why.
4. If you weren't co-hosting a morning, would you consider yourself a "morning" person?
I can't stop laughing at that question! Ramiro's laughing too. Absolutely not!
5. When you've had a rough day, what do you do to get back to your happy place?
Talking to, or spending time, with my niece. She can instantly make me smile!
6. What would you like to do more of on the air?
Talk to the listeners! I could seriously talk to them all day. We have some really funny and interesting people that listen to us, but there's just never enough time on the air. I may be in the minority, but I would rather talk to our listeners than most celebrities. Maybe I shouldn't say that! LOL
7. Think back to being a 10 year-old. What did you want to be when you grew up?
I remember thinking pediatrician, lawyer, or newscaster. I'm so happy I didn't follow through on any of those because I can't even imagine doing any of those now.
8. Your morning partner, Ramiro, is a big sports fan. Are you into sports? Play or watch?
I'm a fan of our local teams, and keep up with them, but I would never just sit down and watch any game with other teams just because it was on. I used to watch every single Sox game, but once they won the World Series in 2007, I lost a little interest. I was ecstatic like everyone else, but I feel like we lost our edge as Sox fans. I know it sounds weird, but I miss being a loser.
9. What do you think is the biggest single key to you and Ramiro's morning show success?
Chemistry. Ramiro and I really and truly like each other as people and get along so well. You can't fake chemistry, and we are lucky enough to have it! We also have a great team with our other on-air personality Melissa, our producer Santi, and Music Director/Morning Show Production Director DJ Pup Dawg.
10. What's the most romantic spot in Boston?
I love the reflecting pool at the Christian Science Church. It is so beautiful at night.
Bonus Questions
If you were to leave Radio and music today and you could choose any other occupation, what would it be?
I would say voice actor for animated movies, or a writer. I would love to write children's books.
If you could only watch one movie, one TV show and listen to one CD, which would you choose?
The Lion King, Grey's Anatomy, and Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite.
