1. What drew you into radio?
Probably, just the theater of it all... all of the production, the callers, the music. All I wanted to do was re-create what I'd been hearing at home on the radio. Plus, I really needed an ego boost after middle school.
2. Isn't your brother in radio, too?
Yes, Jesse Tack. He does nights on country WUBE in Cincinnati. We both started in radio at the same time.
3. If you weren't a radio MD/air personality, what do you think you'd be doing now, professionally?
I don't know. I've been doing this for so long (since I was 16). I'd probably be working in the entertainment field somewhere.
4. Who is CrackaJack?
That's the alter-ego I created for my first (and so-far, only) radio single called "Outta My Head." It's a real song that I wrote/sang while going thru some deep stuff. Just so happened that we started playing the song on Hot 104.5, so we decided to sell copies of it to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee. It's funny how a crappy relationship can help so many kids.
5. When you've had a rough day, what do you do to get back to your happy place?
I just go to sleep... and go to happy land.
6. What would you like to do more of on the air?
More live broadcasts on location. I love LIVE... and when you can add real people at a real event - that gets me excited.
7. Think back to being a 10 year-old. What did you want to be when you grew up?
Easy... I told my dad that I wanted to either 'be a preacher or be a photographer for Playboy.'
8. You're a big movie fan. What are you three favorite movies of all-time?
- Superman the Movie
- Field of Dreams (it's an Iowa thing)
- Lord of the Rings Trilogy
9. Knoxville isn't exactly Paris, France. Where in Knoxville would one go to pick up a 'lil culture?
Downtown at Market Square you'll find a nice selection of local culture... including hippies.
10. You grew up on a farm. Looking back on life on the farm, what did it teach you about life?
I learned that I suck at bailing hay and driving a tractor. Not much else about life, though.
Bonus Questions
Hypothetical...NASA decides to send a DJ on next shuttle/space station mission. Are you game for going?
TOTALLY! I'm a space freak. I'd have to fight Brad Allen, our production guru. He actually KNOWS astronauts.
Who would you like to star as Joey Tack in the Joey Tack Story being developed by Fox Searchlight?
Jesse Tack would probably work...but he'll have to work on his charisma.
