BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
I started as a mixer in New Orleans then Overnights and Mix show at Y95 in Phoenix. I went back to New Orleans for my first fulltime shift doing nights. I went to nights at KSFM/Sacramento from there. In 2000, I went to Phoenix for mornings at KKFR. From there, I went to mornings at KSFM and at KBMB in Sacramento. I'm now in Fresno at Q97. Whew, that's a lot.
1. What originally gave you the Radio bug?
I mixed at a club in New Orleans And Karen Cortello (MD At Q93) heard about me, came in to see me and invited me to the station (WQUE Q93).
2. After initially returning to Radio as the afternoon jock at KSEQ, you're back in your familiar morning show slot. How was the adjustment to afternoons?
Well I think I had a bit of an advantage, because I brought all those years of experience I had doing mornings to the afternoon, and it was easier for me to do afternoons, once I got in there
3. Did you ever think you would not return to Radio?
Well, there was a time I didn't think I would get back in the game, and I was over it, but after a while I just realized that it's in me. Radio is what I do!
4. What's the highlight of your radio career to date?
This might sound corny but "Radio" is my career is the highlight. Even with the current state or Radio ( and it sucks sometimes) We are blessed to still put head phones on, and grind it out on the air...how cool is that?
5. If you could have one super power for one week, what would you choose?
I'd be invisible
6. You worked with your PD Tommy Del Rio in Sacramento. Has your relationship changed after over a year in Fresno?
Yeah, Tommy's my man. We are closer both with me on the air and off, being in such a small town like Fresno we have to work harder at the station to do more with less, so we lean on each other a lot at the station. Off the air we hang out a lot, cause he makes more money than me and he buys lunch ALL THE TIME.
7. Who do you consider to be your mentor(s)?
WOW! So many...but first and foremost Catfish Cooper he's the one that said "You got it kid". Also Bob West, Dr. Dave, Clifton, Chuck Field, Jay Michaels, and I know this sounds like I'm sucking up, (but I need the raise) lol Not but rReally, Tommy Del Rio he has demanded more from me as a Jock than anyone and has pushed me harder than anyone to be better. That's a true story.
8. What's the best thing about being your age?
That I can look back on my career be proud of the good, the bad, and the ugly... I have learned a lot about humility and forgiveness over the years.
9. If you could have one "do over" in your Radio career what do you think it would be?
Wow, I read that question and this is the first thing that popped in my head. This will be the most honest thing I will say in this whole interview. I would do many, many things different from my early career, so that I could have saved my marriage. I would definitely do that over and still have my family.
10. In what ways is Fresno similar to New Orleans?
LOL...sorry to say this out loud but, "None!!!!"
Bonus Questions
What's the nicest thing a listener has ever said to you?
When someone comes up and just says, "thanks".
