BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
KAVS/Lancaster (Part-Time), KISV/Bakersfield (Middays/Mixshow DJ), KSEQ/Fresno (APD/MD/Mornings), KVEG/Las Vegas (Mornings/Imaging Director), KWWV/San Luis Obispo (PD/Mornings)
1. What excites you about radio today?
Where will "radio" go in the future? That's actually really exciting to me. The possibilities for the future of "radio"... doing more with less, taking advantage of the tools that are out there, the technology is changing all the time. Some new cars are coming out of the factory with stereos that have built in recording capabilities, similar to DVR on your TV... "game changers" are popping up everyday.
2. If you had to choose between another live jock and a full time web/social media person, which would you choose?
Live jock? What are they doing in the studio? Watching the computer segue records? I would go with the web/social media position. Driving traffic to the websites, creating content, updating Facebook, Myspace (don't laugh... some people still use it), and Twitter. It's pretty intensive and although probably hard to monetize just yet... can still be enormously effective for brand awareness. (We're still a diary market) And I can always have that person voice-track, too! That's the trick to voice-tracking... making it sound LIVE... the listeners shouldn't be able to tell the difference.
3. You're also programming two stations now. Are you having fun with the second station 95.3 The Beach?
Yes. It's been a whole new challenge, but we're growing the station as much as we can... taking advantage of the strengths of our super small but super dedicate and talented staff. The signal is super weak, doesn't cover the whole market... yet I think we've finally found a niche that makes sense for the market and sandwiched it between the Classic Rock station and the Oldies station in town. I'm also digging into our progressive talk station KYNS as well.
4. Wild has thrived in this Pop/Rhythmic world. Do you miss playing a lot of Hip Hop?
Not really. Playing Ja Rule 90 times a week is just as annoying as playing Pink 90 times a week. Rhythmic radio was my first love, but that's one thing I've always loved about Rhythmic radio... a good rhythmic station can go wherever the trend in music takes it. I can get my yearning for the past out of my system with our lunchtime mix. The WiLD Workout at Noon. I mix ANYTHING from back in the day. It could be hip-hop, house, freestyle, new jack swing... it's musical therapy for me. Our listeners are super passionate about it, too.
5. Catfight between Ke$ha and Britney...who wins?
Depends... Does Britney have an umbrella? Does Ke$ha have a bottle of jack? Topless? In that scenario... we ALL win!
6. If you were singing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl, would you at least nail the lyrics?
No. I would blow it. Seriously... leave Christina alone! I say, let he who knows all the lyrics without the help of Google cast the first stone. In grade school we would rehearse that song for months and still screw it up. What the heck is a rampart anyway? I thought that was something taggers did... Ramp-art?
7. Who would be your dream morning show co-host?
When I was in Las Vegas we had Mike Tyson in the studio... and I swear to GOD... everything that came out of his mouth was SO DAMN COMPELLING! I would give him an on-air gig in a second (just make sure someone with fast fingers is on the dump button). Alexia Gloria (KWIN/Stockton) voice tracks mid-days for me here on WiLD 106 (remotely from Stockton)... but the girl is a star in the making. In the real world, I'd grab her if I had any kind of a budget for it.
8. Anything still surprise you at The Graduate on Wednesday nights?
Where do I start. We host this club every week... 18 and over. 800 folks every week... where do I start... the 55 year old white guy that does the robot the whole night? The occasional pregnant girl? The fist pumping great grandma? The tranny? The occasional random celebrities? The lady in the wheelchair on the dancefloor? If you don't have things at your club... it ain't happening.
9. What do you like to do with the little free time that you do have?
I live in PARADISE. San Luis Obispo is beautiful! It's really going to take a lot to get me out of here. The beach is 10 minutes away... it's February... and today's high is 70. Having lunch and a drink outside with friends is one of my favorite things to do. Otherwise... chilling at home watching a movie. Being "the wacky morning guy" forces me to be an extrovert for my job... I'm kind of the opposite when I'm not working.
10. If you were Brad, The Bachelor, would you keep Michelle around awhile for good TV or for hot monkey sex?
You assume that I have time to watch television. But I did look this Michelle up online... can I change my answer to question 7 now?
Bonus Questions
Is it time to have a real, funny guy on The Bachelor? Would you do it?
Two things wrong with this scenario. 1) If they want a 'funny guy'... why would they pick me? 2) Where would they find contestants who would compete to date me? I think one of the pregnant chicks and the tranny from our club night might show up, but that's probably it.
