BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
I've been in radio for a year. I used to be in agriculture. I studied physics and mathematics in college. Go figure
1. How did you become interested in radio?
Well, I have always enjoyed listening to radio and, especially, to engaging DJs. When the opportunity to host a show arose, I really couldn't say no.
2. How long have you been at KHUM?
One year.
3. How would you describe the music on the station?
It's a free-form station, but I'd say we tend toward both folky pop and neo-soul.
4. How do you feel about the current climate of music?
I like a lot of the trends I'm hearing in the Triple A world. This contemporary throwback-soul indie-rock blend is my jam.
5. What newer artists are you most excited about?
They're not particularly new, but my favorite currents are Lake Street Dive, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats and St. Paul & The Broken Bones.
6. What do you like best about your job?
Honestly, the thing I enjoy most about radio is the opportunity to facilitate communication on a wider scale, be it an on-air discussion or the more casual listener request to DJ selection to listener request feedback loop.
7. How do you stay in tune with your audience?
I take a lot of requests and try to keep up an ongoing dialog among the listeners and myself based on the music or current (especially local) events.
8. What are some of your biggest challenges as an independent station?
Not being rich?
9. What would surprise people most about the station?
I don't know; it's a pretty unique station. I think people are aware of that and therefore expect the unexpected.
10. Fill in the blank: I can't make it through the day without ...
... pizza!
