BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
I've been in radio since the late-'80s. I started at WTTR (96 Rock)/Ocean City and worked awhile at WZBH/Ocean City when it first went on-air. In 1990 I became a "part-time full-timer" at WIYY (98 Rock)/ Baltimore for 14 years before I moved over to do mornings with Chris Emry at WZBA (100.7 The Bay)/Baltimore 2004. I eventually moved into the midday slot there where I stayed until 2017. I moved to the beach that Fall to take care of my dad and started the evening show at WOCM (Ocean 98). As you can see, I've come "full circle" being back on the air at the beach. Only this time I'm working for the coolest radio station in the nation!
1. How did you become interested in radio?
A music fan forever but started out in the News medium of broadcasting. I moved to Ocean City with my best friend from broadcasting school and she was the radio major that got me hooked (thank you Jeni Gipe!) Plus, there weren't many females in radio in the mid-'80s so those jobs were more available.
2. Who were/are your mentors?
A couple other graduates from my school BIM (Broadcasting Institute of MD): Sarah Fleischer and Robin Quivers.
3. How would you describe the music on the station?
Feel-good! Our studio overlooks one of the top "bucket list" bars/restaurants in the country so it's hard not to have that positive energy anytime you walk into the studio. We play such a diverse mix of music; new songs and artists, reggae tunes and a category I refer to as "Classic New" meaning bands that have been around awhile but are still making and releasing good songs.
4. What new artists are you most excited about?
Noah Kahan, The Seratones, Lukas Nelson, The Hellings, Jocelyn and Chris Arndt, among others
5. Are there any key venues in town that the station is affiliated with?
Yes ... Seacrets! The campus has five stages open for shows in the summertime and a big indoor venue called Morley Hall open year round. We also have bands play live in studio on a feature called "Live Lixx at 6."
6. Now that the weather is beginning to turn, do you adjust the station's programming in any way?
We will play Alice's Restaurant on Thanksgiving. Other than that, nope.
7. What is your biggest challenge at the station?
No challenges in radio. Just things to check off on the To-Do list and then sit back and enjoy what makes the world go 'round ... MUSIC.
8. What has been your biggest career highlight?
Meeting the Rolling Stones.
9. What is the one truth that has held constant throughout your career?
When you love what you do, you never work a day in your life.
10. Fill in the blank: I can't make it through the day without ...
... Zakk Wylde's Death Wish Coffee!
