1. What was your favorite station to listen to when you were a kid?
I loved listening to 105.7 The Point. My parents were big fans of rock music, so I listened to whatever they played. Looking back, my parents have played a big role in shaping my taste in music. I listened to KSHE-95 a lot as well. It's hard to imagine what I would be like today if I weren't raised around alternative/rock music.
2. What got you interested in the radio business?
I think it is interesting that each station is so unique. I loved listening to the radio as a kid because with the flip of a button or turn of a dial, you're getting something from the completely opposite genre. You sort of build trust with the listeners because of your station's personality; the station knows what the people want, and the people want what we have.
3. Who are/were your mentors?
My voice instructor, Cara Dineen, has been one of my biggest supporters since I have started studying under her. She is always so positive and never fails to cheer me up. Someone else I would consider a mentor is Adam Donohue, since taking saxophone lessons and now Music Production and Recording with him, my musical knowledge has reached heights I did not know were possible.
4. What is your major at Lindenwood and do see yourself pursuing a radio career after you graduate?
My major is Music Business and Entrepreneurship. I would love to pursue radio after I graduate! Anything to get involved in music would be amazing as a career. My true passion is writing music and singing, but radio will always have a special place in my heart!
5. For those that have never heard the station, how would you describe the sound of the station?
One thing about KCLC I love is that the variety of music that we play. KCLC's sound is promising and memorable. You will never hear two songs that sound similar in a row, everything we play is so fresh and recognizable.
6. Where do you find new music?
Social media plays a big part in discovering music for me. TikTok is a great source for finding new music because of how quick videos and audios get spread around. I love using Spotify's Discover Weekly For You and the Release Radar playlists also.
7. I know you have a vast range of musical taste – who are some of your favorite bands?
This is such an incredibly hard question to answer because I am constantly finding new bands and artists I love. Elton John has played a big role in my musical career and life. But if I had to pick a few favorites currently, I'd say Rex Orange County, Wallows, Joji and Mitski.
8. How are you managing this new position as MD, attending classes, playing in band and being the VP of Membership of Lindenwood's Chapter of the National Association for Music Education?
It has been stressful but scheduling every hour of my day has helped a lot with time management and finishing tasks. I am getting adjusted quickly with how things go and my routine, so it is getting better and better each day. Luckily, everyone I have met as MD, has been so supportive and helpful. I'm very grateful to everyone that has offered help me get adjusted to the job.
9. What is the best advice someone has given you?
My best friend once told me, "Start where you are." I tend to get ahead of myself and expect unreasonable things of myself. Reminding myself to start where I am helps me stay grounded. I am a college student; I am learning every day and trying to become a better version of myself.
10. Fill in the blank: I can't make it through the day without ...
My dogs. I have three amazing dogs named Reese's, Mars, and Junior Mints. My dogs are such a positive part of my life, they never fail to make me smile. I do not know what I would do without them in my life.
