1) Thanks for taking the time to answer 10 Questions for All Access. Where does this interview find you today? What is on the agenda besides this interview?
Currently in FW on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. I just attended a church service and am now eating an apple while drinking a mango smoothie. I cherish moments like this where I get to catch my breath and recenter spiritually, physically, and mentally.
2) Let's start at the beginning. How has your life experience shaped your path as an artist?
My life experience is the elixir of my creative process. It is the well in which I get to drink from. I have a perspective/background that is unique and very useful when I need to draw inspiration.
4) What was the inspiration for the current single "Tears Run Dry?
Family friends were celebrating their 50th anniversary and asked me to write a song.
I was having a hard time writing one until I watched the movie "A Walk to Remember." An early 2000's movie that just punched me in the feels and gave me the sentiment I was searching for.
5) Tell us about the theme of new album SEA/SONS coming out April 14th?
The ebb and flow of life is so delicate and a key ingredient to development. Rain helps us appreciate the sun but if the sun shines too bright for too long, we dry out and wither thus needing the rain to refresh and replenish.
Life is not binary. Life is a wheel of colors being changed by the arms of wind, pushing us towards legend.
SEA/SONS is about the chain of events and the utmost significance of each moment that links us to the growth that follows.
They are not peaks and valleys but Master and Study. Do not run before you walk or walk before you crawl for you will miss the sensation and joy of sand falling between your fingers to remind you the tighter you hold on, the quicker it falls.
6) What's your take on Triple A radio today and do you have any favorite on-air radio moments you can share with us up to this point?
I am so grateful for Triple A radio. Now more than ever. They amplify our voices at a time where everyone is desperately seeking for a space to be heard and I would not be here without them.
7) There's a definite difference between making a record and going out and playing it live in front of an audience. Many feel that the real work is making the record, and the fun part is playing it live. What is your take on both processes?
They are two sides of the same coin. The record is the center point of it all and what brings in a new community of listeners. Playing live is the expression of the growth and evolution of all the emotions within the songs. They are both essential.
8) Speaking of playing live. Do you have any tour plans for this year?
Yes! going on tour in April supporting Wilder Woods, followed by my album release show in Dallas and then Bonnaroo and Newport Folk Festival this summer. Some really exciting things to come.
9) Who are some of the older and/or newer artists who inspire your music?
Bill Withers - Gary Clark Jr - Tracy Chapman - Kanye West to name a few artists that have influenced and inspired my sound over the years.
10) Finally, on a personal note, what do you like to do for fun and relaxation when you are not in your "Music" mode?
I absolutely love playing spades and this Wii game called fortune street with my family. Going to Coffee shops and people watching is also undefeated. Trying different ways to elevate my aesthetic when it comes to fashion. Those are a few simple things that give me joy.
