BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
College Istructor, Mbile DJ, Mediabase Triple A listener, music retail, Wine Country Radio.
1. How did you become interested in radio?
Listening to KFOG growing up, finding out about and getting involved with my college radio station. Plus I was motivated by "Pump Up the Volume," "Northern Exposure" and "WKRP."
2. How would you describe the music on KRSH?
Roots-oriented Triple A with NPR and college radio sensibilities.
3. What new bands are you most excited about?
Black Keys, Devotchka, Richard Hawley.
4. How do you stay in tune with your audience?
We do so many promotional events that I personally get to hear from a lot of our listeners, as do the other Krush staff members. Our audience is so passionate about the music we support that we also hear from them all time through phone messages, e-mail, Facebook and just meeting listeners all over the community.
5. As OM, you oversee multiple stations with a limited staff. How do manage your time?
I definitely have to prioritize my time in a way that doesn't always lend itself to listening to all the new music I would like. Dealing with computer problems and tower issues tend to come first. I do like being involved in multiple formats, though.
6. What is your typical day like?
Arrive at 7:30a; assess the overnight automation situation; answer listener e-mails; generate the logs for both of my stations; voicetrack the afternoon show on my Adult Hits station; rip Secialty shows and new music into the system; talk with sales and promotions about events; voice commercials; deal with the websites; plan our efforts around concerts and events. Leave by 4:30p or 5, if I'm lucky!
7. What station event are you most proud of and what makes it successful?
Being a part of what is now the established tradition of our Krush Backyard Concerts -- I take pride in the entire production and execution of them.
8. What has been your biggest career highlights?
Becoming the Krush PD is certainly one. I am also very proud of our latest Arbitron ratings - the best the station has ever had! Being hired to teach the Radio Broadcasting classes I took in college and advising the college radio station was also an honor for me.
9. What stations do you like to keep track of?
KGSR/Austin, KFOG/San Francisco, KPIG/Monterey, KBCO/Denver, KINK/Portland, KLLC/San Francisco, KITS/San Francisco and KNBT/New Braunfels, TX.
10. Where do you see yourself in five years?
Somewhere in Northern California, hopefully close to Wine Country.
