Julien Baker
Mar 8, 2021

We were first introduced to Memphis-based singer-songwriter Julien Baler back in 2015 with the release of her debut album, Sprained Ankle, followed by Turn Out The Lights in 2017. Then Baker teamed up with Lucy Dacus and Phoebe Bridgers in 2018 for the Boygenius project. She now returns with the solo effort Little Oblivion.
Self-produced and recorded in Memphis, Little Oblivion finds Baker doing most of the performances herself. Her solo material has gradually expanded arrangements from nasic piano and guitar to added keyboards, a rhythm section and more by this album. In addition to “Faith Healer,” other standout tracks include “Heatwave,” “Crying Wolf,” “Bloodshot,” “Song In E” and Repeat.”
Baker recently told Past Magazine, “I think sometimes I find myself to be very introverted, and sometimes what I think I need is isolation. But that just allows me to get deeper into my own brain, so it’s good to be brought back into the present by something as simple as conversation with my roommates. And as far as where I’m at now, I would venture to say that I’m in a much more stable place now than I was. I was beginning to piece this record together two years ago, and now I’m finally seeing the full contrast of how destroyed I could be.”
Julien Baker will be doing a streaming concert on March 25th. Learn more about it and her at www.julienbaker.com.
