Manchester Orchestra
May 24, 2021

Atlanta’s Manchester Orchestra formed in 2004 and with the release of The Million Masks Of God, the band has now released six studio albums, each showing a progression of the band’s sound toward a more cinematic and expansive approach. The songwriting skills of rhythm guitarist/singer/songwriter Andy Hull and lead guitarist Robert McDowell remain vibrant, and they are powerfully backed by bassist Andy Prince and drummer Tim Very.
The Million Masks Of God explores the themes of birth, death and the life we live in between, prompted by the death of McDowell’s father from cancer. The album was co-produced by the band, along with Catherine Marks and Ethan Gruska, who added keyboard, guitar, and percussion. In addition to the single “Bed Head,” other standout tracks include “Angel Of Death,” “Keel Time,” “Telepath,” “Let It Storm” and “Way Back.”
Hull said, “Making this record reiterated to us that there are no rules and there is no ceiling. It convinced us to be ambitious and take our time in order to create something really special. There’s a decision we’re faced with when experiencing loss and the inevitable grief that follows. Do we let it sink us? Do we ignore it and pretend it is not there? Or do we search and dig until we find signs of beauty in life and all of its experiences?”
Manchester Orchestra recently performed on CBS “This Morning,” “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” and “Comedy Bang Bang.”
