Adele
Feb 21, 2011
Now just into her 20s, Adele Adkins is a sensation all over the world and is now poised to increase her success in the States. Her debut a couple years ago took her a long way here and ultimately left us with anticipation as to what this talented young lady would come up with next. Well, she hasn't disappointed us one bit with her sophomore effort, "21."
Adele was raised in London and attended the same performing arts school in Croydon that Amy Winehouse, Leona Lewis and Kate Nash attended, but Adele decided to follow her own path musically. Her approach to her music and the fact that she writes almost all of her own material has given her a very personal perspective. While citing diverse influences, Adele has synthesized them into her own soulful, acoustic pop style.
Produced by Rick Ruben, Paul Epworth, Jim Abbiss, Ryan Tedder, Frasier T. Smith and Dan Wilson (many of whom she co-wrote with, as well), "21" shines Adele in a more confident and gutsier light. With "Rolling in the Deep" riding at the top of the Triple A charts, it is time to dig "deeper" into the album. Check out "Turning Tables," "Set Fire to the Rain," "He Won't Do," "I'll be Waiting" and "Someone Like You."
"As soon as I got a microphone in my hand, when I was about 14, I realized I wanted to do this," she said. "Most people don't like the way their voice sounds when it's recorded. I was just so excited by the whole thing that I wasn't bothered what it sounded like." I think we all agree it sounds pretty damn good!
Adele was the first winner of the Brit Critics Choice Award in 2008, won a Best New Artist Grammy in 2009 and has garnered many more awards since then. She has several upcoming appearances including: "The Late Show with David Letterman," "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," "Jimmy Kimmel Live," "Chelsea Lately," CBS "Early Show," VH1 "Unplugged" and NPR's "Tiny Desk Concert," "All Things Considered" and " World Cafe.
