Paul Simon
Apr 4, 2011
"So Beautiful or So What" is Paul Simon's first new album in five years. Produced by Phil Ramone and Simon, with liner notes written by Elvis Costello, "So Beautiful or So What" features a broad range of musicians and sonic textures. At the heart is his incomparable songwriting.
We got our first taste of Simon's new project with the release of "Getting Ready for Christmas Day" during the holidays. Then "The Afterlife" was released and is climbing the charts at Triple A. But the album is full of great songs such as "Rewrite," "Love Is Eternal Sacred Light," "Love and Blessing" and the outstanding title track.
Rolling Stone magazine recently declared it, "His best since Graceland," and National Public Radio affirmed, "...his new music balances great poetry and pop."
Lest you have forgotten, Simon has received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award; is a member of The Songwriters Hall of Fame and a recipient of their Johnny Mercer Award; has been inducted into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame; was a recipient of The Kennedy Center Honor; and was awarded the first annual Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song!
Simon's philanthropic work includes the co-founding of The Children's Health Fund with Dr. Irwin Redlener. He has also raised millions of dollars for worthy causes as varied as AMFAR, The Nature Conservancy, The Fund for Imprisoned Children in South Africa, Autism Speaks and The Joe Torre Safe At Home Foundation
Simon has a run of dates in the U.S before he heads to the U.K. this summer. Joining for this tour is a stellar band of musicians including Cameroonian guitarist Vincent Nguini, drummer Jim Oblon, pianist Mick Rossi, saxophonist/keyboardist Andrew Snitzer, bassist Bakithi Kumalo, guitarist Mark Stewart, master percussionist Jamey Haddad and multi-instrumentalist Tony Cedras.
