Death Cab For Cutie
Jun 6, 2011
Although they may have originally appealed to a younger adult audience, Death Cab For Cutie have reached a point where their music had become more universal: once a "spice" act for Triple A, they are now a core band.
Their last album, "Narrow Stairs," was a huge success led by the powerful ""I Will Possess Your Heart," and the first single from their latest project, "You Are A Tourist" has been riding atop both Triple A charts for a few weeks now.
But now that we have "Codes and Keys" in our hands - the band's seventh studio effort - several other tracks are beginning to emerge, including the title track, "Monday Morning, "Underneath the Sycamore," "Door Unlocked and Open" and "Home is a Fire."
Comprised of singer-guitarist Ben Gibbard, guitarist-keyboardist-producer Chris Walla, bassist Nick Harmer and drummer Jason McGerr, Death Cab created "Codes and Keys" in studios up and down the West Coast, in short bursts over a period of seven months. They have always produced their best work by recording in a piecemeal fashion like this according to the band.
"I feel like if there is a theme of home throughout the record, it has much to do because of the changes that have happened in my life," Gibbard said. "I've moved from Seattle to Los Angeles, I've gotten married, I've rediscovered what the definition of home is."
Death Cab are currently wrapping up a sold out U.S. club tour, and are soon headed to Europe and the U.K. They will return to North America in July.
