Viva Voce
Jul 4, 2011
Husband and wife team Kevin and Anita Robinson formed Viva Voce back in 1998 while still living in Alabama - they have since relocated to Portland, OR. They have released five albums - including their latest, "The Future Will Destroy You" -- and have toured the world several times with such acts as The Shins and Jimmy Eat World before being able to headline in their own right.
"The Future Will Destroy You" was written, played, produced and mixed by the Robinsons in their home studio. Known for their hazy atmospherics and soaring guitars, Viva Voce has made an important mark in the indie-rock world. Their latest effort represents some of the duo's strongest songwriting and musicianship to date and will certainly take them to the next level in terms of radio support and sales.
"Although we treated the songs with love and care, we wanted the record to have a feeling of immediacy. That forced us to get into high gear and stay there. You have to make decisions and commit to them, and scrap something if it's not cutting it," said Kevin Robinson. "The way we write and record just totally clicked on this record. I feel like it realizes the potential all of our previous albums hinted at."
In addition to the title track, virtually every song on the album is a keeper. I especially like "Plastic Radio," "Analog Woodland Song," "Black Mood Ring," "No Ship coming in" and "Cool Morning Sun."
