Mike Doughty
Aug 22, 2011
We were first introduced to Mike Doughty when he was with the band Soul Coughing, but in 2000 they broke up, and Doughty found himself on his own. This isn't as scary as it sounds: All along Doughty found himself writing songs that didn't fit with the band, and he'd even found time to record some of them. But it wasn't until 2000 that those recordings saw the light of day, as "Skittish."
Continuous touring and growing word of mouth about Doughty led him to a deal with ATO after a chance meeting with Dave Matthews at Bonnaroo in 2004. His debut for the label, "Haughty Melodic," took about two years to complete with producer Dan Wilson, of Semisonic fame. He saw great success at the Triple A format from that album. He then returned with "Golden Delicious." Again produced by Wilson and, again, the project did well at radio. Next came the more acoustic "Sad Man Happy Man."
Now recording for his own label, Snack Bar, Doughty teamed up with producer Pat Dillett for his latest effort, "Yes And Also Yes" - not counting the fan-only electronic "Dubious Luxury" just released. Notable musicians involved with the project included Andrew 'Scrap' Livingston (bass, cello), Thomas Bartlett (keys), Marty Beller (drums) and Carolin Pook (violin).
In addition to the lead-off track "Na Na Nothing," also check out "Day By Day By," "Strike the Motion," "The Huffer and The Cutter," "Rational Man," "Vegetable" and "Holiday (What Do You Want?)," which features a duet with Rosanne Cash.
Doughty will be on the road in support of his new album.
