Tori Amos
Sep 12, 2011
The idea of making her 12th studio album classically-inspired seems like a natural progression for a creative and unique artist like Tori Amos. And it is Amos who is the singular formidable force for Night of Hunter as she chose and arranged the classical excerpts to adapt to her self-penned songs as well as handled all production chores.
This album is an all-acoustic work and is a 21st century song cycle that finds Amos drawing on themes from Satie, Granados, Chopin and other great composers. It tells a modern love story that is only unraveled after a journey to Ireland's mythic past. Guests include such esteemed players as The Apollon Musagete Quartet and the Berlin Philharmonic clarinet soloist Andreas Ottensamer.
With more than 12 million albums sold and multiple Grammy nominations, Amos is one of the most successful and influential artists of her generation. A pioneer across multiple platforms, she was the first major label artist to offer a single for download, has had her songs turned into graphic novels and has produced groundbreaking videos throughout her career.
Amos is also a noted humanitarian and co-founder of RAINN (Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network), which is the United States' largest anti-sexual assault organization.
Night of Hunters deserves to be listened to in its entirety but there are four tracks that are suggested for radio: "Shattering," "Nautical Twilight," "Edge of the Moon" and "Carry," which also has an accompanying video.
Of the project, Amos revealed, "One of the main themes explored on this album is the hunter and the hunted and how both exist within us."
