Great bands don't always make themselves fully known with their debut release, but they always plant a certain seed of originality that immediately begins to bloom. With Coldplay's debut effort, "Parachutes," such a seed was sown with the songs "Yellow" and "Trouble." Sure these two songs ended up becoming big hits and they established high expectations for the band to come up with something spectacular with their next project, but they also left us still wondering a bit as to what they were all about.
"A Rush of Blood to the Head" answered many of those questions, as we watched Coldplay become one of the most popular new bands in the world. They kicked it up another few notches more with X&Y and then came Viva La Vida, which cemented Coldplay as one of the biggest band in the world!
They now return with their fifth studio album in just over a decade -- Mylo Xyloto preserves all we've known and loved about this band while still allowing them to open up new avenues of expression. Produced by Markus Dravs, Daniel Green and Rik Simpson, with creative input from Brian Eno, Mylo Xyloto is the most anticipated new album of the year!
In addition to the No. 1 Triple A songs "Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall" and "Paradise," several other tracks are beginning to emerge such as "Hurts Like Heaven," "Charlie Brown," "Us Against the World," "Princess of China" and "Major Minus."
"The hope is for the record to be free from any musical kind of box. It very much comes from the Brian Eno professorship of, 'Go anywhere. As long as it's you guys, you can go anywhere...,' said Chris Martin. "We've been together long enough that I know how everyone else is feeling, and it makes me excited when I feel the others are excited."
Coldplay - comprising Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland, Will Champion and Martin - has sold more than 50 million records worldwide and won numerous awards, including seven Grammy Awards, six Brit Awards and four MTV Video Music Awards.
Coldplay did the Live From Glastonbury concert on VH1 in June; they have performed at the Austin City Limits Festival and the iHeartRadio Music Festivals this year; did a "Live On Letterman" webcast as well as an appearance on the Letterman show; and recently appeared on "The Colbert Report," "Today" And "The Ellen Degeneres Show." They will be the musical guests For "Saturday Night Live" on November 12th.
Coldplay is currently touring Europe with plans to come to North America in the spring of 2012
