Kate Earl
Jan 7, 2013

Originally from the Alaska, Kate Earl now calls Los Angeles home. She returned in the fall of 2012 with a new label (Downtown) and new album, Stronger. The album's lived-in, Laurel Canyon-vibe came together with Earl and Brett Dennen (her principal collaborator on the album) recording 17 songs in a whirlwind six-day session. She also worked with Blake Miles on some of the songs. The result is an honest album that tackles a variety of subjects and also reveals the artist's growing maturity.
In addition to the input of Dennen and Miles, others who contributed to the project include Victor Indrizzio on drums (Alanis Morissette), Shawn Hurley on bass (John Mayer) and Zac Rae on keys (Fiona Apple). Besides the first focus track, "One Woman Army," other songs on Stronger you should pay attention to include "Wicked Love," "Shadows And Light," "Not The End Of The World," "Raven" and the title track.
Earl has said she reached "place of honesty" with this new album. "I didn't dodge the new journey I'm on in the family I have with my son: it would have been much easier to come up with a pile of love songs; about the strange journey of being a musician in Hollywood. Instead, I talk about being broke. I talk about being physical with someone when it will never go anywhere. I wrote about a dead soldier because I grew up with military families around me. I took on topics I wasn't sure I should write about before even though they were a part of me."
Earl's "One Woman Army" was featured in the 12/7 issue of Entertainment Weekly and her new album Stronger was recently reviewed in Esquire. She is a featured artist at Starbucks and Whole Foods for the month of January.
Earl taped ETown in November which airs in January and she wrapped up a major market tour with Passenger at the end 2012. More tour dates are in the works.
