Trixie Whitley
Jan 13, 2013

Trixie Whitley is a musician based in Brooklyn. As the daughter of singer-songwriter Chris Whitley, she performed on several of his albums. She has also released three solo EPs and has just released her debut album, Fourth Corner.
Whitley was born in 1987 in Ghent, Belgium, into a family deeply immersed in the worlds of art and music. She began playing the drums when she was 10!
At age 11, she was touring Europe with several theater companies, and, at the age of 14, with the renowned dance company, "Les Ballets C de la B," as an actor, singer, dancer and musician. During this same period, Whitley also became known as the youngest resident DJ in Europe, embraced by Belgium's Museum of Modern Art and spinning at raves, festivals and parties in Brussels, Paris, New York and Amsterdam.
At the age of 17, Whitley relocated to New York and began working odd jobs while starting to perform her own music in clubs throughout the city. The career of this young renaissance artist has been building ever since. Beside her collaboration with Daniel Lanois for Black Dub, she has continued to be embraced by and to collaborate with some of the world's finest musicians and producers, working with Marc Ribot, Robert Plant, Stephen Barber, Marianne Faithfull, Joe Henry, Craig Street and Malcolm Burn, among many others.
Whitley's talent truly shins on her new album, Fourth Corner, co-produced by keyboardist Thomas Bartlett. Standout tracks include "Never Enough," "Need Your Love," "Breathe You In My Dreams," "Gradual Return," "Irene" and the title track.
"As a songwriter," Whitley said, "I want to go to places people don't expect and with that is complete freedom of expression."
Whitley has some dates set for the U.S. and then a series of shows in Europe before she returns home.
