BOY
Feb 3, 2013

BOY is a Swiss-German pop-folk duo founded in 2008 by Valeska Steiner and Sonja Glass. The two met while at a music course at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg, Germany in 2005. Hamburg is where they now are based.
Steiner grew up in Zurich, Switzerland, while Glass is from Hamburg. Though they met on the second day of that 2005 seminar and immediately felt a strong musical connection, it was another two and a half years before they began to work together: Stenier was committed to other projects at home, while Glass continued to play with other German acts.
Their debut album, Mutual Friends, was produced by Philipp Steinke and released in the autumn of 2011 in Europe, and is now seeing the light of day in the U.S. The duo won the Hamburg Musician Prize in 2011 for Hamburg's Newcomer of the Year (HANS), and their album won the 2012 European Border Breakers Award (EBBA).
BOY's music is fresh and somewhat innocent. The duo's song "Little Numbers" was featured in the Lufthansa Airline's advertisement in mid-2012 and was a recent Starbucks Pick of the Week. Other key tracks off Mutual Friends include "This Is The Beginning," "Waitress," "Army," "Railway" and "Oh Boy."
Steiner said of Mutual Friends, "It's just an optimistic album about new beginnings and nostalgia."
After some key showcase dates and an appearance on KCRW's "Morning Become Eclectic," BOY will be touring the U.S. in March. Several of the dates are already sold out!
