Eric Clapton
Mar 17, 2013

This year marks the 50th year Eric Clapton has been making music and he is celebrating with a new album called Old Sock as well as a world tour. The album is a collection of some of Clapton s favorite songs spanning from his childhood to present day that highlights his vast appreciation and knowledge of music. From Leadbelly to J.J. Cale; Peter Tosh to George Gershwin; Hank Snow to Gary Moore and Taj Mahal, this record is a celebration of so many who have inspired Clapton.
Clapton assembled a band for the recordings consisting of longtime collaborators Steve Gadd (drums), Willie Weeks (bass) and Chris Stainton (keyboards) along with some surprise guest additions. They include J.J. Cale (vocals, guitar), Chaka Khan (vocals), Steve Winwood (organ) and Paul McCartney (vocals, bass).
The feel is loose and playful for most of Old Sock (his 21st studio album and his first on his own Bushbranch label). Highlights include "Gotta Get Over," "Further On Down The Road, "Angel," "Born To Lose," "Till Your Well Runs Dry" and "Still Got The Blues."
In addition to the regular version of the album, there is also a limited-edition deluxe version. It features a custom linen-covered book with copper foil-stamped lettering that holds both the CD and bound booklet with photos and lyrics. It also includes the bonus track "No Sympathy."
Eric Clapton opened his 2013 tour in Phoenix on March 14th and he'll wind up the first leg of U.S. dates at his Crossroads Guitar Festival in Mid-April before heading to U.K and European tour beginning in May.
