'The Music Is You: A Tribute To John Denver'
If you are of my generation you know every John Denver song, whether you bought him albums or not. He may not have been the "coolest" dude on the planet, but his music was universal and touched everyone.
Now 15 years after his death from a small private plane crash off the California coast, we are reminded by a new generation (and a few older ones) of the singer-songwriter's lasting legacy. To many, Denver was a poet, a visionary and a constant companion.
The artists assembled for this new tribute record, The Music Is You, showcase some of Denver's most beloved songs with a cross-genre, cross-generational mix of musicians.
Those artists include My Morning Jacket, J Mascis & Sharon Van Etten, Lucinda Williams, Dave Matthews, Amos Lee, Josh Ritter, Brandi Carlile & Emmylou Harris, Allen Stone and many more.
The tribute has been featured on NPR as a First Listen, tracks are being spotlighted on CMT and the project has also been heralded elsewhere. A portion of the proceeds from The Music Is You will benefit The Wilderness Society.
