Dawes
Apr 21, 2013

Dawes is an American rock band from Los Angeles, composed of brothers Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith, along with Wylie Gelber and Tay Strathairn. Dawes was formed from the band Simon Dawes after the departure of co-songwriter Blake Mills. The new band formation also led the four to explore an entirely different style of music - one that references the timeless "Laurel Canyon" sound of the '60s and early '70s in Los Angeles.
Dawes has just released their third album, Stories Don't End, on its own label, HUB Records. Recorded in five weeks last September in Asheville, NC, Stories Don't End features clean production from Jaquire King, who helped the band break out of its vintage mold, though they don't completely strip away that Laurel Canyon sound.
In addition to the first single "From A Window Seat," check out "Just Beneath The Surface," "Most People," "Something In Common," "Hey Lover" and the title track.
"Obviously we have our influences," said Taylor Goldsmith in a recent article in Rolling Stone. "I know that some of what we do as a band is of another time, even simple aspects like guitar solos. So I get it, I'm not mad at it, but at the same time, we just wanted to make sure people saw us as a modern band as well"
Dawes has just begun an ambitious touring schedule that includes dates with Bob Dylan, and stops at the XPoNENTIAL Festival and Outside Lands Festival. The band will perform on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" on May 16th.
