Laura Veirs
Jul 22, 2013

It's hard to believe that Laura Veirs has been recording since 1999! She started out with self-released projects before going to Nonesuch for a few projects, but she is now back to releasing her music via Raven Marching Band records.
Originally from Colorado, Veirs spent time in Seattle before settling in Portland, OR with her husband, fellow musician and producer Tucker Martine. Veirs' music has always been intelligent, somewhat introspective and adventurous.
She now returns with her ninth studio album, Warp And Weft. Recorded while Veirs was eight months pregnant with her second son, the project addresses motherhood, love and violence, among other topics. Primarily electric-guitar driven, it could well be Veirs' best work to date, featuring Jim James, kd Lang, Neko Case, Brian Blade and members of The Decemberists.
"Sun Song" is the first focus track from Warp And Weft, but several other songs are worth your attention, including "America," "Dorothy Of The Island," "Shape Shifter," "That Alice" and "White Cherry."
"I think of this record as a tapestry where disparate elements come together and are stronger and more lovely as a result," said Veirs.
Once Veirs recovers from her pregnancy, she plans on hitting the road in the U.S. this autumn followed by dates in Europe and the U.K.
