Broken Bells
Feb 9, 2014
Brian Burton (Danger Mouse) and James Mercer (of The Shins) - a.k.a Broken Bells - return with their sophomore effort, After The Disco. After the Disco follows up the 2010 self-titled debut which is on the brink of RIAA Gold certification.
The new album again showcases the songwriting magic that happens when Burton and Mercer get together. The project is thematic and reflects on the human condition of all of us looking for meaning and comfort in life. You'll hear all kinds of influences and yet the synthesis of these styles creates something fresh and compelling.
In addition, to "Holding On For Life," other standout tracks include "Perfect World," "Leave It Alone," "Medicine," "and the title track.
Of their collaborative process, Burton said, "When we record, James stays with me and we wind up hanging out and talking a lot. When it comes time for all of the lyrics and everything else, [the songs are] a reflection of those talks that James and I had gone through and what we decided to write."
Broken Bells' tour is almost completely sold out! They recently played on "Late Night with David Letterman" during the week of acts honoring the Beatles leading up to the CBS Grammy 50th anniversary of the celebration of The Beatles coming to America. Their dates include Coachella, Governors Ball and Squamish.
