Beck
Mar 2, 2014

Ever since Beck came onto the scene in the mid-'90s, his music has been hard to categorize - especially since he has utilized all manners and eras of music, and managed to blur the boundaries from project to project. But it was 2002's Sea Change that locked the artist in with the Triple A crowd.
Now after a several-year hiatus (except for some special efforts, collaborations, a book and select performances in 2013) Beck returns with his new album, Morning Phase. Many are comparing it to Sea Change and while Morning Phase isn't a direct sequel to Sea Change, it shares many of the same themes and sound: more lush ballads, with soaring orchestral parts. It was also recorded by the same group of musicians, including drummer Joey Waronker, keyboardist Robert Joseph Manning, Jr and guitarist Jason Falkner.
"Blue Moon" is our lead track from Morning Phase, but several other tracks are beginning to emerge from the project including "Heart Is A Drum," "Say Goodbye," "Country Down" and "Waking Light."
In a recent Rolling Stone feature about the new album, Beck Said, "There's this feeling of tumult and uncertainty, getting through that long, dark night of the soul - whatever you want to call it. These songs were about coming out of that - how things do get better."
Morning Phase was an iTunes album of the day, was streamed early on Rollingstone.com and was an NPR first listen. He was just on "Saturday Night Live."
