Kan Wakan
Jun 22, 2014

Kan Wakan emerged in early 2012, the musical brainchild of composer/producer/multi-instrumentalist Gueorgui I. Linev. The Bulgarian-born musician originally set out to create solely instrumental project, but the involvement of vocalist Kristianne Bautista and producer/guitarist Peter Potyondy rapidly saw the project grow into something much more.
Others involved include renowned producer/engineer Darrell Thorp and engineer Tom Elmhirst. The sessions also include some killer strings performed by the Metamorphosis Chamber Orchestra and conducted by Linev's uncle, Bulgarian Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra music director/conductor Stefan Linev. Several talented sessions players also contributed to the project.
Together they blend a variety of styles -- psychedelic soul, post rock, electronica, noir jazz, 60s soundtrack vibes and orchestral pop - into a minimalist and hypnotic sound. Their debut album Moving On is a rich collection of moods and texture. Particularly strong songs include "Like I Need You," "Forever Found," "Are We Saying Goodbye," "Space Owl (Cut The Rope)" and the title track.
"We wanted to put no limits on what we were setting out to do," Linev says. "We tried to put as much of ourselves on the record as possible so that we can look back on it as a real and honest statement of who we were in that moment, both musically and spiritually."
Kan Wakan just came off a series of showcase dates. They performed at Amoeba Records in Los Angeles for their album release on June 18th.
