Twenty one years since his first studio album, David Gray's tenth and latest album, Mutineers, finds the singer-songwriter steering into unfamiliar territory while cultivating a respectful relationship with his own history: Gray broke from his regular routine of songwriting and recording and, decided to switch things up a bit.
"I was reaching, I was feeling for things rather than knowing and placing, and something far more interesting happened. There's such an authority about any recording that's made in the heat of the moment when you're actually discovering it as you're recording it," he told All Access's Nicole DeRosa in a recent interview.
Mutineers was produced by Andy Barlow (who also did the programming) and includes musicians Robbie Malone (guitars), Keith Prior (drums), Caroline Dale (cello) and John Smith (guitar). Recommended tracks include "Back In The World Again," "As The Crow Flies," "Beautiful Agony," "Cake And Eat It Too" and "Birds Of The High Artic."
Mutineers was release via Gray's INT label in association with Kobalt Label Services. He has just wound up an extensive North American tour and is gearing up for some European dates.
