The New Basement Tapes
Nov 16, 2014

The New Basement Tapes is the collaborative effort of producer T Bone Barnett and musicians Elvis Costello, Rhiannon Giddens (Carolina Chocolate Drops), Taylor Goldsmith (Dawes), Jim James (My Morning Jacket) and Marcus Mumford (Mumford and Sons).
Together they worked on creating music for two-dozen recently discovered song lyrics written by Bob Dylan several decades ago. The end result is Lost Songs: The Basement Tapes.
A Showtime special entitled "The Basement Tapes Continued" -- produced and directed by Sam Jones and recorded at the Capitol Studios in Hollywood --chronicles the recording of the new music for the project and airs beginning FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 21st. The documentary coincides with the release of the Burnett-produced studio album.
The project should be taken as a whole, but several tracks stand out including
"Kansas City" (with lead vocals by Mumford), "Down On The Bottom (with lead vocals by James), "Diamond Ring" (with lead vocals by Goldsmith), "Hidee Hidee Ho #16" (with lead vocals by Giddens) and "Six Months In Kansas City (Liberty Street)" (with lead vocals by Costello).
The New Basement Tapes are in the midst of doing a few select live performances. They recently appeared on "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon."
