Singer/songwriter Joelle James was born and raised in Murrieta California. Her first big break came at the age of 11 when she performed on Showtime At The Apollo.
After graduating from high school, she enrolled at Berklee College of Music in Boston. She graduated with a degree in music studies and voice. She began posting music her on social media.
Her YouTube videos caught the attention of singer Chris Brown and he signed her to his CBE imprint. Eventually a deal with Interscope followed. James recorded some singles with Brown, including 2012's "Fading Away" and 2014's "Leave the Club."
James parted ways with Interscope and later signed with Roc Nation. In 2016, she reunited with Brown for the duet "Scream." She wrote Ella Mai's hit song "Boo'd Up."
