Dr. Dre
Feb 14, 2011
Dr. Dre's long-awaited first single from what is reported to be his officially announced final studio LP Detox finally hit the waves in its proper mastered form after an early rough draft leaked this past November.
"I Need A Doctor" featuring long-time collaborator and songwriter Eminem, is dominated by the Detroit rhyme spitter with Dre delivering his bars heading into the song's climax. Eminem's urgent verses amid vocalist Skylar Grey's haunting vocals clash violently with the rock-styled drums and dramatic keys. The theme of doctor and patient somehow meshes closely with the metaphor of mentor and student.
Dr. Dre also relaunched his website, DrDre.com, which hadn't been utilized in many years. For now, the site is simple- the official grey, red and white hospital-themed artwork pointing to the release date of "I Need A Doctor," and a Soundcloud player that automatically streams the tune when the page is opened. Beats By Dr. Dre, Aftermath Records and Interscope Records logos adorn the bottom of the page, and open up links to each brand's respective sites.
In XXL's December/January issue, where Dre appears on the cover, he spoke of his reticence to use the internet and perhaps offered an explanation for why his website was neglected for so long.
"I download music, but beyond that I'm not really computer savvy," he said. "I like getting in the studio. Any computer that it takes for me to do what I do in the studio, I know that. But as far as searching the Web and what have you, trying to find out what's going on, I'm not really into that. I have people that turn me on to certain things that they think that I might be interested in, but other than that, I'm not into it."
