Bilal Sayeed Oliver, better known by his stage name Bilal, is an American singer-songwriter, musician and producer. He is currently an independent artist residing in New York City.
Bilal is noted for his wide vocal range, his work across multiple genres, and his live performances. He has been well received, both nationally and internationally, with an extensive list of collaborations including Common, Erykah Badu, Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Guru, J Dilla, Robert Glasper, The Roots, and many more.
With a his new album, A Love Surreal, Bilal unveils the first single from the Salvatore Dali-inspired project. Picking up where he left off with 2010's terrific Airtight's Revenge, "Back to Love" wears Bilal's characteristic brand of organic, jazzy soul, the track giving off a live feel without sacrificing its tight composition and polish.
With the release of A Love Surreal, Bilal immediately achieved commercial success, debuting at #1 on iTunes' R&B Chart. On Billboard, the album debuted at #17 on the Independent Albums Chart, #19 on the R&B Albums Chart, and #103 on the Billboard 200, ranking higher than its predecessor, Airtight's Revenge. The album also received numerous high reviews, including an 8/10 from SPIN Magazine, a 4.5/5 stars from Allmusic, and a 4/4 stars from USA Today.
Bilal also released a mixtape, The Retrospection, a collection of notable past singles and features, cover songs, and all-new material.
