Gareth Daley, known professionally as Daley, is a British singer-songwriter from Manchester, signed to Polydor Records in the UK and Universal Republic Records in the US.
Daley began as an independent artist in the industry, building a reputation for himself by showcasing his melodic vocal style, flair for songwriting and vocal arrangement with a number of small gigs in and around the United Kingdom. In October 2010, he received his mainstream breakthrough when he became the guest vocalist on the top forty Gorillaz hit, "Doncamatic". The track was released on 22 November 2010, and was later added to a re-release of the Gorillaz' album, Plastic Beach. This gained him industry recognition, and shortly after, he signed a joint record deal with Universal Republic Records and Polydor, to market his music on both sides of the pond.
In early 2011, Daley was asked by British rapper Wretch 32 to appear on his own debut record, Black and White, and together, the pair wrote the album's second promotional single, "Long Way Home". This gained him further recognition, and shortly after, he was shortlisted for the BBC's Sound of 2011 poll, which in turn, meant that several BBC Radio DJs, including Ras Kwame, MistaJam, Ronnie Herel, Jo Whiley and Sam Walker, picked up on his music, and began promoting his debut single, "Smoking Gun", with radio airplay.
Shortly after the release of "Smoking Gun", Daley released an EP, entitled Those Who Wait, via his official website, and through the iTunes Store. This contained "Smoking Gun", as well as number of other tracks destined for his debut album. One of the EP's most popular tracks, "Game Over", which was produced by ELEMENT and written by Daley, went on to receive airplay on alternative radio stations, and "Alone Together", a duet with Grammy Award nominated British singer-songwriter Marsha Ambrosius.
Daley began writing his debut album, featuring production from Bernard Butler, Shea Taylor and Pharrell Williams as well as help from old friend and former collaborator, Damon Albarn. Daley confirmed that the album was near to completion, and that it is slated for release in Spring/Summer 2013 and the album's title was confirmed to be Days & Nights.
On July 22nd, the first single from 'Days & Nights" premiered on BBC Radio1xtra, 'Broken' will serve as Daley's second official UK single.
