Double Down on Thankfulness
November 21, 2017

Radio is anchored on experiences that keep alive our community connection.
And social media enables us to elevate that exact human element radio thrives on.
So why at times are we lured into paying for/using social media shortcuts, gimmicks or tricks (artificial tactics) in order to "game" the system?
When I hear people wanting to use tools that'll help them "steal" their competitors' social media audience/data, I get the intrigue, but always ask "why?"
Before we fantasize about other fan bases - what exactly are we doing for the current base that already 'likes' us?
- Who in your current active social media audience base (your influencers) do you interact with on a first name basis?
- What personalized treatment does the current fan base receive?
- How are you creating 'holy-crap' moments to win never-ending word-of-mouth?
Before we go "stealing" or creeping on the competitors' audience, we need to nail how to take care of the current fan base.
Do we ever really take the time to look at the fans - see the fans - how they go out of their way to say thank you?
And one of my all-time favorite "Thanks...."
Artificial tactics are short sighted.
We want to be in social media for the long game.
It starts by:
- Doubling down on thankfulness; interacting with the audience in memorable ways.
- Monitoring our brand socially by carving out time each day to search the brand socially. This means without "@'s," too.
- Creating Google Alerts with the words like "Thank you" and station name.
- Making a commitment to use our large, privileged platform to showcase the audience.
When we are true to one fan at a time, it breaks through. People start recognizing that - and they begin to glom onto brands that remind everyone they matter.
Helping people feel seen and heard.
Through that type of treatment, brands elevate excitement for the fans and strengthen its value.
If social is going to correlate to higher ratings, genuine effort is required.
And that starts with doubling down on thankfulness.
