The FCC's latest quadrennial stab at revising its broadcast ownership rules has been published in the Federal Register, opening the comment period for the docket.
The proposal leaves the radio ownership rules, including AM/FM subcaps, intact and asks for comment on changing the numerical limits and/or market tiers and on how the digital transition affects the differences between AM and FM station. Also open for comment are whether the Commission should adopt a specific waiver standard for radio ownership limits and how the rules impact minority and female ownership. The Commission is also considering whether to modify the rules regarding television ownership, and has proposed to eliminate the radio/television cross-ownership rule but retain the newspaper/ownership cross-ownership rule.
Comments are due on MARCH 5th with replies due APRIL 3rd.
