Clear Channel Hartford Move-In Flips To Sports As 97-9 ESPN

After much speculation, CLEAR CHANNEL has unveiled the new format for the 97.9 FM facility it moved into the HARTFORD market, and it's Sports as 97-9 ESPN, taking the format aired on sister Sports WPOP-A/HARTFORD effective this morning at 6a (ET). The station, formerly Country WPKX/ENFIELD-SPRINGFIELD (the format of which has moved to sister WRNX (KIX 100.9)/AMHERST-SPRINGFIELD), has moved into the HARTFORD market with new city of license WINDSOR LOCKS and antenna in downtown HARTFORD), is airing the ESPN RADIO lineup and will add a local afternoon drive show.
"CONNECTICUT is the center of the sports world with ESPN headquartered here in BRISTOL," said CLEAR CHANNEL HARTFORD-NEW HAVEN VP/GM STEPHEN HONEYCOMB. "For the first time, our listeners now have a full-time FM sports station that is as passionate about sports as they are."
