Legendary competitive eater TAKERU KOBAYASHI, making his debut appearance at the event, did not disappoint the sell-out crowd at WELLS FARGO CENTER for CBS RADIO Sports WIP-A-F/PHILADELPHIA's WING BOWL 20 TODAY (2/3), smashing the event's record by eating 337 hot wings, 82 more than the previous record.
KOBAYASHI's performance blew away the competition, which also ate wings at a record pace; runner-up and former champion JONATHAN "SUPER" SQUIBB polished off 271 wings (and won a Camaro in the process), and another former champion, BILL "EL WINGADOR" SIMMONS, reached the 250-wing mark. After the victory, KOBAYASHI indicated to morning host ANGELO CATALDI that he would return to defend his championship against SQUIBB next year.
The annual event was founded 20 years ago by morning co-hosts ANGELO CATALDI and AL MORGANTI as something to do with the EAGLES once again not making the SUPER BOWL, and was aired live on the station with play-by-play from the morning team, CATALDI, MORGANTI, and RHEA HUGHES; proceeds from this year's event will benefit local charities, including the POLICE ATHLETIC LEAGUE.
