KIRO's Ron & Don Help Ensure Josh Powell Not Buried Next To Slain Sons

BONNEVILLE Talk KIRO-F/SEATTLE afternoon host RON AND DON swung into action when it appeared that JOSH POWELL, the man who killed himself and his two sons in a house explosion and who is suspected in the disappearance of his wife, would be buried next to the children he murdered. Their efforts helped raise more than $20,000 in donations to reimburse CRIME STOPPERS OF TACOMA-PIERCE COUNTY, which bought plots next to the children to prevent POWELL from being buried there.
After hearing that POWELL's surviving family members had selected -- but not yet purchased a plot at WOODBINE CEMETERY next to slain sons CHARLIE and BRADEN POWELL, PIERCE COUNTY Detective ED TROYER and Sheriff PAUL PASTOR bought the plots, and RON AND DON raised donations to reimburse them for the purchase. TROYER told RON AND DON that if the boys' missing mother SUSAN POWELL is found dead, they will give up a plot so she can be buried by her sons.
"When we heard this story at 3p today, we felt compelled to stop this tragedy from happening," said DON O'NEILL. "So," added RON UPSHAW, "we asked our KIRO listeners to help us raise the funds to reimburse CRIME STOPPERS OF TACOMA-PIERCE COUNTY. And, they did in a big way!"
"When the news and conversation on 97.3 KIRO FM impacts the hearts and minds of listeners like the tragic and shocking crimes involving the POWELL family, the 'RON AND DON Nation' is always quick to answer the call and today was no different," said KIRO PD LARRY GIFFORD. "I'm continually amazed at the kind-heartedness and generosity of the people who make up our community. They inspire, empower, and engage each other to help make a positive impact and I'm proud we were able to play a role in that today."
