CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40/Mainstream WRNW/MILWAUKEE has issued an apology for a flyaway promotional ad that promised, "We'll deport someone to MEXICO every FRIDAY," JSONLINE.COM reports. The apology came after LEAGUE OF UNITED LATIN AMERICAN CITIZENS (LULAC) state Dir. LUIS GARZA, contacted the station after getting complaints about the ad.
"When we learned about it, we immediately contacted CLEAR CHANNEL and expressed our concern at the level of insensitivity in making light of the practice of deportations that have been going on and that affect the Latino community," GARZA said. "It's not a laughing matter to make light of it. The promotion was in bad taste and we asked that it be withdrawn." he said.
CLEAR CHANNEL/MILWAUKEE VP/Market Manager JEFF TYLER then issued this statement: "WRNW FM (97.3) apologizes to any listeners and fans we may have offended with the recent flyaway promotion to MEXICO that ran on our station. This goes against everything WRNW stands for. Please be assured that we take matters of this nature very seriously, and we removed it from our program as soon as it was brought to out attention. Again, we deeply apologize."
