Merlin Magically Turns Leap Day Into 'Loop Day'

In its typically snarky style, MERLIN MEDIA announced that Classic Rock WLUP (THE LOOP)/CHICAGO would honor "the proclamation of the President of the State of CHICAGO" by authenticating that FEBRUARY 29th, "the day formerly known as LEAP Day, will now and forever be known as LOOP Day. In an attempt to synchronize the Classic Rock calendar and celebrate the bissextile year acknowledgement,THE LOOP will feature nonstop classic rock the entire Leap .. uh, LOOP Day."
"Since Leap Day is all about intercalating an additional day approximately every 4.979 years and WLUP’s frequency is 97.9, we felt this was the perfect time to pay homage to THE LOOP," VP/Puffery DEWEY CHEETUM postulated. "Besides the station isn’t really worth honoring one day every year. In fact, this kind of tribute every four or five years is pushing it."
Purported OM "and Gregorian calendar user" PJ noted, "This is an astonishing acknowledgement. I don’t know what bissextile and intercalating means but if it gives The Loop a chance to play ALL MUSIC, ALL DAY. I am all for it. Rock on!"
If that wasn't enough -- and don't you wish it was -- THE LOOP is launching its new FREE "Loop Live" iPHONE app on LOOP Day, to give downloaders the ability to search over 979 shows at more than 97.9 CHICAGOLAND venues.
There was an accompanying quote from WLUP’s Dir./Online, Mobile, Social, Digital, Apps and Analog Services Dir. IAM REDUNDANT, but that would be a third quote for this epic news story, which would force us to look for a fourth quote so we could have a full gallon. So there.
