CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 WHTZ (Z100)/NEW YORK and syndicated star ELVIS DURAN welcomed TOBY KEITH to the program to talk about his new surprise hit "Red Solo Cup," which KEITH said, "actually got played on the radio." When co-host TJ asked if he got paid millions of dollars by SOLO CUP for the song, KEITH said, "My manager goes, should we call the SOLO CUP people before we put this out? I said, no, it’s easier to apologize than it is to ask for permission."
The company had a problem with the song for "about a week, and then they came around and said ok and then they apologized and now they’re on our side," said KEITH.
DURAN asked, "When I was growing up in beautiful DALLAS, TEXAS, my mom and dad every weekend would have their friends over and we’d be out on the deck around the pool, the red SOLO CUPS were always going. Am I from the only family that actually put the red SOLO CUPS in the dishwasher and washed them over and over?"
KEITH replied, "No, you’re in the right part of the country -- It's kind of white trash." The whole crew then erupted in laughter.
