SALEM Talk KRLA-A/LOS ANGELES and KTIE-A/RIVERSIDE-SAN BERNARDINO will be rebranded as "THE ANSWER" on APRIL 23rd, using the same new name that was recently installed at sister Talk WNYM-A/NEW YORK. Along with the new name will come a new morning show hosted by former longtime LAS VEGAS personality HEIDI HARRIS, who recently left BEASLEY Talk KDWN-A/LAS VEGAS.
SALEM VP/Director, Spoken Word Format PHIL BOYCE said that the stations' new positioning is designed to help make both stations more competitive and project more attitude in their imaging. "We have been using the name 'THE ANSWER' in New York since March 12th," said BOYCE, "and could not be happier with the response. The on air attitude and positioning is much more positive and we decided we could do something similar for KRLA and KTIE. The addition of HEIDI HARRIS to the morning show is a major investment in the future of these stations, so the timing was perfect to combine the new show with the re-branding effort."
HARRIS, who hosted at KDWN and at CBS RADIO Talk KXNT-A in her native LAS VEGAS in 1998-2012, said, "I am thrilled and excited to join SALEM COMMUNICATIONS, a company that has quickly become one of the most respected places to work in radio and a company with a huge commitment to what I do: the News Talk format. I can't wait to get back on the radio, and to do my thing in LOS ANGELES and the INLAND EMPIRE, two great markets for talk, and two great stations."
BOYCE added that HARRIS "is a proven talk radio pro with a great personality and great instincts on topic selection and on-air attitude, so I am confident she will make a splash in LA and the INLAND EMPIRE."
KRLA-KTIE PD CHUCK TYLER said, "The LA and INLAND EMPIRE morning talk airwaves are ready for a little shake-up. When HEIDI became available we immediately knew she was 'the Answer'! These are very exciting times for KRLA and KTIE."
And on the imaging, BOYCE said, "I have had a blast writing some of these on-air promos about LA and the INLAND EMPIRE, just like I did in NEW YORK CITY. Obviously the SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA attitude is a lot different than NEW YORK, so the imaging will be different, but is just as imaginative and creative."
