Disney Fiscal Q2 Revenues, Income Rise

The WALT DISNEY COMPANY's overall fiscal second-quarter revenues rose 6% to $9.629 billion, with net income up 21% to $1.143 billion (63 cents/diluted share). The company's media networks division saw a 9% increase in revenues to $4.692 billion, with the broadcasting division contributing $1.525 billion, a 2% increase, and cable networks up 12% to $3.167 billion. The company does not break out performance for its radio operations, ESPN RADIO and RADIO DISNEY.
"With 18% adjusted growth in earnings per share, we're pleased with our second-quarter performance," said Chairman/CEO BOB IGER. "We're incredibly optimistic about our future, given the strength of our core brands, DISNEY, PIXAR, MARVEL, ESPN, and ABC, and our extraordinary ability to grow franchises across our businesses, such as THE AVENGERS, which shattered domestic box office records with a $207.1 million opening weekend for a global performance of more than $702 million to date."
