It's official, as broker PATRICK COMMUNICATIONS discloses that the owner of the UTAH JAZZ, the LARRY H. MILLER GROUP, is buying Sports KZNS-A-F (97.5 THE ZONE)/SALT LAKE CITY from SLC DIVESTITURE TRUST I (the trust headed by PATRICK COMMUNICATIONS' own principal LARRY PATRICK selling SIMMONS MEDIA spinoffs in the SALT LAKE market) for $3.25 million. The deal was first reported last week (NET NEWS 5/16).
The purchase would likely move JAZZ play-by-play from its longtime home at CUMULUS Sports KFNZ-A (THE FAN), which the MILLER GROUP has been programming under an LMA, and may mean the move of some of THE FAN's local hosts to THE ZONE. The first word of changes is the immediate move to put FOX SPORTS RADIO and PREMIERE's JIM ROME on both newly-acquired stations starting WEDNESDAY, with the FM taking the FOX SPORTS RADIO 97.5 branding. Both stations will carry ROME, FOX SPORTS TONIGHT, JT THE BRICK, and weekend programming from the network; the FM will also carry FOX SPORTS DAYBREAK and PETROS AND MONEY from FSR.
